We currently are recruiting for two Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced positions. The positions are similar, but one works primarily in barns and outside on equipment, and the other in general facilities. More details for each follows:

Barns and outside equipment including manure pumps and pumping systems

This position is primarily responsible for providing complex mechanical maintenance and repair work to manure handling systems and building equipment while working under general supervision. This position works independently with good judgement to troubleshoot problems by diagnosing the problem, determining alternatives to remedy the problem, making a recommendation on the best method to solve the problem and making the repair. Other responsibilities include heavy equipment and complex farm equipment operation. This position also assists in preventive maintenance and repair of equipment and machines.

Requirements:

  • A Criminal Background Check (CBC) will be conducted.
  • Hold a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License that meets UW Risk Management Standards.
  • Obtain within 6 months a valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B
  • Will be required to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Climb to heights of 60 feet, work on ladders, roofs, and a man-lift.
  • Must be able to work in dusty and moldy conditions.
  • Must be able to work in barns around animals and manure to complete repairs.
  • Maintain certification with UW Occupation Health Program.
  • Maintain and update the Animal Contact Risk Questionnaire.

General Facilities including maintenance and repair of building systems

This position is responsible for performing complex mechanical maintenance and repair work to building systems while working under general supervision.. This includes: heating and ventilation (HVAC); electrical and electronic equipment; plumbing equipment; and various other types of mechanical and related equipment associated with water systems. This position works independently with good judgement to troubleshoot problems by diagnosing the problem, determining alternatives to remedy the problem, making a recommendation on the best method to solve the problem and making the repair. Other responsibilities include maintenance and repair of agricultural equipment and to operate equipment to perform general farm work when needed.

Requirements:

  • A Criminal Background Check (CBC) will be conducted.
  • Hold a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License that meets UW Risk Management Standards.
  • Will be required to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Climb to heights of 60 feet, work on ladders, roofs, and a man-lift.
  • Must be able to work in dusty and moldy conditions.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Ability to work on knees for flooring/concrete projects.
  • Must be able to work in barns around animals and manure to complete repairs.
  • Maintain certification with UW Occupation Health Program.
  • Maintain and update the Animal Contact Risk Questionnaire.

Affordable, on-station housing is available near the station headquarters for one of the positions. A 3 bedroom, 2 bath house is available to rent at a reduced rate for station employees.
